With a fleet of 5 vessels, two trucks and support equipment, the Hamilton Beach Rescue Unit is unique within the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary as we are able to respond to calls for assistance 24/7/365. If there is open water, we can go! Our vessels are kept in a modern firehall-like facility allowing us to launch even when other boats have been laid up for the winter.
During the boating season, one of our rescue vessel stands ready for immediate dispatch in the Port. We are able to transit to where we are needed – be that Toronto or the Welland Canal. And we can get there via road or water. (All of our vessels can be trailered.) But our primary service area is on Lake Ontario between Grimsby and Oakville as well as the Hamilton Harbour.
Our vessels are equipped with the latest technologies to aid in navigation and searching and our crews receive extensive Transport Canada and Coast Guard certified training to ensure when someone’s life depends on us, we are prepared.
Our success comes from our volunteers. If you have an interest in volunteering for marine search and rescue – we’ll provide the training. You only need to provide the enthusiasm and commitment. Please email us for more about how to join us as a crew member.
